Alves out of Spanish cup final

Barcelona defender Dani Alves will miss the Copa del Rey final next week after breaking his collarbone in training today.

The 29-year-old Brazilian's injury was assessed and Barcelona announced on their website that he would undergo surgery this afternoon.

According to Barcelona, club doctors Ricard Pruna and Carlos Torrens will provide an update on Alves' condition at 7pm Irish time.

Barcelona are due to play Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish cup final on May 25, in what will be Pep Guardiola's final match as manager.
