Brendan Powell jnr hopes to make a swift return to action once he has sat out the mandatory 21 days after being knocked unconscious at Southwell on Sunday.

The conditional rider was knocked out when he fell from The Lemonpie in the Mansfield Jobs today.co.uk Handicap Chase but after being checked over at Queen's Medical Centre, he was given the all-clear.

His father, the trainer Brendan Powell snr, said: "He's fine, he had a lie-in this morning.

"He's still got a bit of a headache but there's nothing wrong with him to speak of.

"We just need to find out how long he has to sit out, then I think they have a test after they've been knocked unconscious and he'll be back after that.

"He'll be going to see Dr (Michael) Turner (chief medical advisor of the British Horseracing Authority) no doubt."
